Montormel and Camembert

We had a very late start this morning as Marie Louise and Boudewijn had a sleep in.  As it was raining it was all okay.  We had a late relaxed breakfast while we looked at brochures of the area, and in the end we decided that it was a day for museums, plus we wanted something nearby.  We found there was a museum and memorial only about 12 kms away, so that was our first stop.  The Memorial De Montormel is situated between Argentan and Vimoutiers, and the museum overlooks the plain where in August 1944, 100,000 Germans were encircled by nine allied divisions.   American, British, Canadian, French and Polish troops inflicted on them what was an unprecedented defeat on the Western Front.  50,000 Germans were killed or taken prisoner.

After that sombre visit we then went to Camembert to visit the museum of Camembert.  It was much interesting, but certainly not that exciting.  The best part was the tasting at the end!  As it was still raining we decided to just go to the supermarket and pick up the ingredients for dinner, and then to head to our comfortable warm home.  Fingers crossed that the weather is a bit better tomorrow.
