Tourist Route in the Orne Region, Normandy

Thankfully the weather was much better today, so we headed off to take in some quaint French Villages.  We had read about the wonderful villages in the area, so we picked a few and headed to Belleme first.  It certainly was pretty, but alas it was incredibly quiet with nothing more to do than go for a wander around.

From there we headed to La Perriere.  We had read that a dutch bra and knicker designer got her inspiration in this town.  Of course we had to see if we could find such inspiration.  Sad to say it was lost on us, but the town was pretty none-the-less.

By now it was lunch time and we needed to find somewhere to eat.  That is not easy to do when all of these towns close between 12.30 and 3.00!!  Thankfully we found a cafe along one of the roads.

After lunch we started to make our way back towards our holiday house.  We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Gace, which is gorgeous.  We wandered around the streets, had a look at the tourist information office and stopped for a much needed coffee.

Then back to Vimoutiers, the closest town to our accommodation for a look round.

Apparently, on 14 June 1944, during the Battle of Normandy, Vimoutiers was bombarded by Allied forces. The village was destroyed and 220 people died.

I couldn't find out if it was rebuilt to be exactly the same as previously, but it all looks old and it is a very attractive town. We wandered around the streets, visited the church, and also the supermarket for a few supplies for home.

Finally home for a home cooked meal by Marie Louise with a glass or two of the very delicious local cider!

Our holiday home!
